Rap-punzel

At the start of the year we were given a brief to modernise a German fairytale, I chose Rapunzel and made a concertina book (I’ll take a picture of this soon) whereby I rewrote the story with a modern twist and added illustrations. The idea of the concertina book was so that Rapunzels hair would stretch across all the pages which would be seen if the concertina was fully opened.

If you want to read the story you may have to click to enlarge each of the pages.

Monsters

To help support my time as an illustration student I work as a breakfast club assistant in a local primary school, I am up functioning and at work resolving conflicts over Lego bricks before the majority of my peers are out of their pyjamas.

In my spare time I enjoy making little stuffed monsters, sort of ‘plush’ creatures and I thought the children might too. So over the weekend I made lots of little monster shapes ready for stuffing and decorating with felt buttons and ribbon. I took the first lot in this morning and they went down a treat so I need to make another lot tonight.

Anyway this got me onto a little idea, I thought about having a sort of post-a-monster, whereby I send these to family and friends for them to do similarly as the children did and decorate them up to a monster of their choice. And in return for them to send me a photo of their monster back. If anyone is interested in this let me know and I’ll get a little monster shape in the post to you. Equally anyone following the blog who’s interested I’d love for you to have a go too.

Raleigh 1977 Stowaway

For my birthday I got a 1977 Raleigh Stowaway bicycle. My boyshape bought it and lovingly spent hours shining up the chrome, degreasing and fettling with the little machine.

It also has additions of new wing mirrors and tires; at the moment the tires are bright white so my bike looks a little bit like its wearing a new pair of trainers. It needs a bit of a run to wear them in a bit, Hopefully I’ll get to do that soon.

I love my little bike, the boy did good.

Projection Drawing

For this project I wanted to play about at projecting images onto faces and then making drawings out of them to look at the relationship between shape, pattern and form. I would like to do a few more of these in future.

Etching

This week I had a go at dry point etching. With no specific brief other than to have a go, so the subject is a little bit different. Here are the results.
